In Office Telephone Equipment

Your Small Business Office phone System requires software and/or hardware at each station. The simplest installation is to install a telephone set that is designed to plug directly into your office network connection. If there is a computer workstation at each users desk, it may be easier to install a software phone on each computer.

Hardware

There are a number of options for the telephone equipment at each station

• Standalone Phones

Standalone phones such as the Grandstream Budegtone do not require a computer, but plug right into your network connection. These retail for under $50.


• Headsets

Headsets can be connected either to the USB port or to the sound card of any computer.


• Handsets

Handsets such as the Clarisys USB phone plug directly into a computer USB port.


• Use existing phone equipment

Or you can use your existing telephone equipment with the addition of a simple adapter. The adapter plugs into your office network connection and the phone plugs into the adaptor. These items retail for under $50.

Software

There are a number of "softphones" available on the market today. Many are free, but some of the ones with more advanced features are available at modest cost.
